In celebration of the 2015 Piedmont Farm Tour, Piedmont restaurant and Coon Rock Farm honor the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association

(Durham, NC – March 30, 2015) – Farmers Jamie DeMent and Richard Holcomb – owners of Piedmont, Coon Rock Farm, Bella Bean Organics & Heirloom Provisions – invite guests to Piedmont restaurant April 16th for a spring dinner with farm friends, and welcome visitors to their Hillsborough farm during the Piedmont Farm Tour, April 25th and 26th.

Coon Rock Farm – a longtime partner of the CFSA — proudly raises awareness and funds with their sister restaurant, Piedmont, and at their family farm. “A decade ago, we reoriented our lives in search of a richer life,” explained owner Richard Holcomb. “We planted a garden that has become a 55-acre farm, and now also own a 4-star restaurant and 2 online farmers markets. CFSA, and their advocacy of our work as farmers, has enabled us to nourish our family and community, share our passion for sustainable farming and real food, and ultimately, live a healthier and more fulfilling life.”

“The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association is on a mission to bring local, sustainable food to your table from a farmer who shares your values. Jamie and Richard at Coon Rock Farm are heroes in the local food movement both by opening up their farm doors for the Piedmont Farm Tour and bringing food straight from the farm to the Piedmont restaurant table,” Laura Stewart, CFSA Education Director.

On April 16th, Piedmont’s $45 4-course menu benefiting CFSA will feature local foods from many of the CFSA’s members and supporters. The menu will include heritage breed pastured pork and greens from Coon Rock Farm, early spring vegetables from Four Leaf Farms and Root Down Farm, foraged mushrooms from Woodfruit and Chapel Hill Creamery’s award-winning cheeses; La Farm Bakery will contribute breads made from NC grain and Eastern Carolina Organics will also donate to the dinner. In honor of NC Beer Month, exceptional local beer-pairings from Fullsteam Brewery, Mystery Brewing and Ponysaurus Brewing will be available with each course for an additional $20. CFSA’s leaders, local growers, producers and brewers will join guests at the table for dinner beginning at 6:30pm. http://www.piedmontrestaurant.com/events/

On Saturday and Sunday April 25th and 26th, Coon Rock Farm opens the gates to their 10-year old, 55-acre sustainable family farm, welcoming visitors from 2pm to 6pm daily. Guests will enjoy farmer-guided tours providing a glimpse into their diverse, organic farm, including garden crops and a greenhouse, as well as their heritage breed chickens, Berkshire pigs and Tunis lambs. Guests will also get to know their new Crop Box, recently featured in the News & Observer (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/business/article11316137.html) Grilled pasture-raised Berkshire bratwurst will be served alongside local, artisan mustards and small-batch condiments from Bella Bean Organics. All Coon Rock Farm and Bella Bean Organics foods will be available for purchase. Coon Rock Farm is located at 1101 Dimmocks Mill Road in Hillsborough, NC.

Richard Holcomb began Coon Rock Farm in 2005 as a sustainable family farm providing garden crops and pasture-raised antibiotic and hormone-free chickens, eggs, pigs, sheep and goats. The farm’s 55 acres is nestled along a bend in the Eno River just outside Hillsborough, NC. The farm concentrates on “sustainably taking care of the land while letting it take care of us.” The soil is fertilized by the animals through intense rotational grazing, cover cropping, and composting. No chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used. Already a fixture in local kitchens, Coon Rock Farm produce, meat and eggs are known throughout the Triangle thanks to its’ participation in many area farmers markets and Community Supported Agriculture programs. It also provides sister companies – Piedmont, Bella Bean Organics and Heirloom Provisions – with meats, eggs and produce.
